Zyvex Receives 20th Patent

Richardson, Texas (January 18, 2005)

Zyvex Corporation today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark office has issued the company its 20th patent.

The patents are all directed towards the company’s nanotechnology commercialization activities and are fundamental to the company’s NanoWorks™ Tools and NanoSolve™ Materials product lines. The bulk of these patents deal with high precision automated assembly or precision nanomanipulation.

“One of our key patents includes a demonstrated technology to make robust mechanical and electrical connections with unprecedented accuracy,” said Zyvex’s Chief Technical Officer John Randall, PhD. “This invention has led to a fully automated pick-and-place process geared toward precision while remaining focused on low cost manufacturing.”

Some of the issued patents have led to other companies licensing Zyvex’s intellectual property. One such patent is for MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS) design software, which is licensed to Coventor, Inc. Another licensed patent, in the area of Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy, has led to the world’s most sensitive real-time chemical analysis technique. Other patents include new micro actuators with both a large range of motion and the ability to adjust their power off position.

“I am extremely pleased with the quality of our patent portfolio,” continued Dr. Randall. “All patents were conceived of by Zyvex inventors and are exclusively owned by Zyvex.”

In 2004, the company received recognition for its inventions when the State Bar of Texas awarded the “Inventor of the Year Award” to Zyvex’s Director of Research, Dr. George D. Skidmore. Each year the State Bar of Texas selects an Inventor of the Year based on the contributions of an inventor and the impact of their inventions to society and the Texas economy.

The company, based in Richardson, Texas, has another seven U.S. patents allowed, 35 U.S. patents pending, 15 U.S. patent applications in process, and 45 International patents pending.
