Zyvex Corporation today announced that Dr. Mark
A. Banash has been hired for the position of Senior Engineer
– Nanomaterials Applications. Banash will be involved
with development of products incorporating the company's functionalized
carbon nanotubes. He brings a comprehensive background in
industrial research, formulation science, quality control/assurance,
chemical manufacturing, and customer service.
Banash was previously at Millennium Chemicals (Hunt Valley,
Maryland) where, as a Senior Scientist, he worked extensively
on product development issues related to the incorporation
of the company’s pigment products in a variety of polymer
matrices. He also used statistically designed experiments
to discover key-processing variables related to product performance
and quality characteristics. He was later promoted to the
company’s Knowledge Systems Group where he designed
IT processes to expedite business information and intelligence
dissemination.
“We’re delighted that Mark has joined
our team,” said Thomas A. Cellucci, PhD, Chief Operating
Officer of Zyvex. “His extensive industrial experience
will be a valuable asset for our nanomaterials business.”
Prior to joining Millennium, Banash was a Research
Scientist at EniChem America (Monmouth Junction, New Jersey).
While there, he helped create industrial ceramics by chemical
vapor deposition (CVD), and, as a member of the research and
business development team for EniChem’s sol-gel glass
program, ultimately helped the venture obtain start-up capital.
Banash holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from
Princeton University, a BA with honors in Chemistry from the
University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the University
of Maryland University College. He is an adjunct faculty member
in Operations and Technology Management at the University
of Maryland University College, the leading education provider
for the U.S. military. He is also a Six Sigma Black Belt with
experience in manufacturing and IT process control and improvement.
