Richardson, TX and Cary, NC (September 3, 2003)
Zyvex Corporation, a leader in
nanotechnology products and services, and Coventor, Inc.,
the leading provider of software for developing commercial
MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) and microfluidics,
today announced that Coventor will license and sell Zyvex’s
MEMulator™ process emulation and viewing technology.
MEMulator completely and realistically emulates fabrication
processes used by the MEMS industry and other industries that
employ semiconductor technology. It is a valuable standalone
tool and an important addition to the CoventorWare™
suite of MEMS design software.
MEMulator is a powerful 3D process
emulation and rendering engine built on Zyvex’s patent
pending algorithms, including compression, for volume element
(voxel) techniques. MEMulator handles large and complex problems
efficiently and creates realistic 3D models. MEMulator consists
of a geometry preprocessing front end, a 3D process builder
and visualizer, a set of Python based scripting tools, and
an automatic meshing module. It imports layout geometries
and exports STL files and meshes for CoventorWare’s
ANALYZERTM FEM/BEM software as well as to third party FEM
tools, such as ANSYS.
MEMulator was developed and used
by Zyvex to help design precision microscale equipment for
nanotechnology and microtechnology manufacturers. It allows
designers to realistically create virtual prototypes of microsystems,
circumventing time-consuming and expensive prototype manufacturing
cycles. MEMulator includes powerful scripting capabilities
for user control.
Thomas A. Cellucci, Zyvex’s
Chief Operating Officer, remarked, “Over the past six
years, Zyvex has developed unique capabilities in 3D MEMS
and assembly. Through Coventor, we will continue to commercialize
these software capabilities, enabling customers to accelerate
their MEMS development. Our companies' products and marketing
philosophies are very complementary, and we have already seen
positive market feedback from this relationship.”
“This product departs from
traditional 3D solid modeling approaches by providing realistic
process emulation capabilities that support MEMS manufacturability
and also extends to most semiconductor processes,” said
David Cook, Coventor's Vice President of Sales.
Evaluation licenses are available
now. Production versions
of MEMulator will ship October 1, 2003.
